This Privacy Policy explains what personal information ConfusionDesign ("we", "us", "our") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers our website, confusiondesign.com, and the hosting, email, and design services we provide.
1. Information we collect
When you contact us. Our contact form asks for your name, email address, and message, and optionally your phone number and a subject. We store what you send so we can reply, and we send a copy to our own inbox.
When you become a customer. We keep the contact and business details you give us, such as your name, email, phone, company, website, and address, along with notes about the work we do for you and records of invoices and payments. We don't store full payment card numbers.
Content you host with us. If you use our hosting or email, your website files, databases, and email are stored on our servers. We only access them when needed to provide or support the service, to keep the servers secure, to investigate abuse, or when the law requires it.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our web and mail servers keep standard logs, which include IP addresses, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. We use these to keep our services secure and to troubleshoot problems, and we keep them only for a limited time.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
- Essential cookies. A session cookie supports the security question on our contact form, and a separate session cookie keeps administrators signed in. Neither is used for tracking.
- Your cookie choice. When you accept or decline analytics cookies, your browser stores that choice so we don't ask again.
- Analytics cookies. If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site, such as which pages are popular and how people find us. If you decline, Google Analytics isn't loaded.
3. Third-party services
- Google Analytics receives information about your visit (such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device type) only if you accept analytics cookies. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Google Fonts supplies the fonts on our pages. When your browser loads them, Google receives your IP address, as it would for any web request.
4. How we use your information
- To reply to your enquiries and provide quotes.
- To provide, bill for, and support the services you buy from us.
- To send service notices, such as renewal reminders, maintenance notices, and security alerts.
- To keep our website and servers secure, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- To understand how our website is used so we can improve it, if you've accepted analytics cookies.
- To meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
5. When we share information
We share personal information only:
- with service providers who help us run our business, such as our server infrastructure, email delivery, and analytics providers, and only as needed for them to do that work;
- when the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our customers, or the public; or
- as part of a sale or transfer of our business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.
6. Where your information is stored
Our servers are located in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there.
7. How long we keep it
- Contact form messages are kept as long as needed to respond and follow up, and we delete them when they're no longer needed.
- Customer records are kept while you're a customer, and afterwards for as long as our tax and accounting obligations require.
- Hosted content, meaning your files, email, and databases, is permanently deleted 14 days after your services end, as described in our Terms of Service.
8. How we protect it
Our website and control panel use encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to customer data is limited to the people who need it to provide our services, and administrator passwords are stored only in hashed form. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and fix problems quickly when we find them.
9. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email us at bryan@confusiondesign.com and we'll respond within a reasonable time. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we may keep some records where the law requires it. You can also decline or clear analytics cookies at any time through your browser settings.
10. If you're a hosting customer
If you collect personal information from visitors to a website you host with us, you're responsible for how you handle it, including publishing your own privacy policy. We process that information only to provide the hosting service.
11. Children
Our services are intended for businesses and adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we'll post a notice on our website or email our customers.
